Bulk Milk Cooler

Bulk milk coolers in dairy farming are greatly used for holding and cooling the milk at a cooled temperature until it has been picked by the milk hauler. The bulk milk coolers are an essential part of the dairy equipment. These milk cooling tanks are usually made up of stainless steel and it is used almost in everyday life to hold the raw milk in large quantity on the farm in the best condition.

These must be cleaned after every milk collection. A bulk milk cooler is also known as milk cooling tank, bulk milk chillers, bulk tank, milk coolers and even milk chillers.

The bulk milk coolers are consisting of two tanks i.e. inner and the other is the outer tank. Both tanks are made up of stainless steel.

The space between both the tanks i.e. outer tank and inner tank is isolated with polyurethane foam. If the power fails with outside temperature 30 degree Celsius even then the tank will not warm more than 1 degree Celsius in 24 hours.

Every tank is equipped with one agitator in order to facilitate rapid cooling of the entire content. Milk stirring ensures that the inside milk is having the same temperature and is homogenous.
On the top of bulk milk cooler is a manhole that is used for cleaning and doing an inspection of the inner tank. A general bulk milk cooler stands on 2,4 and 8 adjustable legs.

New rules proposed by ministry of primary industry are implemented to align the New Zealand’s standards to satisfy the international expectations of traders.

Farmers are asked to shop around for the new systems and to get reputable people to access their cooling systems. As there are already loopholes in the industry so the farmers that could not afford it can at least put cooling systems in purchasing order.

According to the new rules introduced from 1st August 2016 to 1st January 2018, raw milk must be cooled down to 10 degree C or lower within 4 hours in the start of milking. Within 2 hours of completion of milking the milk must be cooled down to 6 degree and within the 6 hours of commencement it must be cooled  down to 6 degree.

Milk must be held at or below 6 degree during the collection or before the next milking. Additional milking into mat should be below 10 degrees.

If the farmers have installed bulk milk coolers then milk must enter the tank at or below 6 degree. To make sure that all rules are met farmers must have the auditable system.
